Joe Allen Rook

Joe Allen Rook, 84, of Springfield, passed away October 23, 2013. Joe Allen was born November 26, 1928 to Eura and Anna Rook in Eudora, Missouri. Joe grew up in Walnut Grove and Morrisville where he met and married the love of his life Jo Laine Holder on December 30, 1950. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War for 13 months.

Following his service he and Jo Laine moved to Springfield where he worked for Associated Grocers and Colonial Bakery for 33 years. He retired in 1985 after missing one day of work in 33 years, and then began the next chapter of his life as he and Jo Laine began to travel to Texas during the winter months. They enjoyed meeting people, playing golf, watching Spurs games and cherished time with their children and their families. Theirs was a true love story of more than 62 years.

Joe is survived by Jo Laine; their oldest son Allen, wife Christy, grandson Matt, wife Jenny, and granddaughters Erin and Anna. Tom, wife Lisa and their son Ryan, wife Lori and daughter Abbi, her husband Garen and their five great grandchildren Brady, Thomas, Aidan, Lincoln and Nora. Daughter Carrie, husband Curt, their son Evan, Wife Janna and great grandchild number six on the way, and granddaughter Callie.

Joe is also survived by his sister Jane Leeper and sister in laws Francis, Beverly and Laura and many cherished nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Robert and Jerry, and his sisters Joan Franklin, Nora Lee O'Connor, Dora Lee Rook, Barbara Ellis and Mary Leona Robbins.

Joe Allen was a wonderful man, a Godly man of character and love. We are proud to honor him Sunday, October 27th with a visitation from 1:00 PM to 2:15 PM and a memorial service at 2:30 PM at the Wilson Brim-Daniel Funeral Home in Walnut Grove, MO 612 Washington Ave. Burial Immediately following at Greenlawn Cemetery, Walnut Grove, MO. Memorial Contributions may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation.
