James Melvin Miller passed away November 4, 2013 at the Missouri Veterans Home. He was born July 24, 1924 to Robert and Versie (Herd) Miller in Ozark County, MO.
He married Mildred Brazeal December 5, 1947. To this union, 3 daughters were born; Judy Pittman (Neil), Nancy Spillman (Charles), and Cathy Rowan (Mike).
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Palmer Miller.
He is survived by his wife; daughters; six grandchildren, Julianna Swope (Brad), Katie Lebeck (Chris), Jennifer Spillman, David Spillman (Daphne), Hannah Givler (Chris), Seth Rowan; eight great-grandchildren, Mason, Landon, and Abbie Towe, Claire Lebeck, Oliver Spillman-Crapo, Isabelle and Brielle Sitali-Spillman, Evelynn Givler; one sister Esther Nawrocki; three step-grandchildren Kristen Farish, Keil Pittman (Lindsey), Kasie Clement (Carlton) and their children, Logan and Lauryn Farish, Eisley Pittman and Cooper, Cobhie and Courtney Clement; three nieces, Janice Lyons (Gary), Donna Nawrocki, and Sanrda Rehard (Bob); and two nephews, David Nawrocki and Michael Miller.
Jim worked at Mid Am Dairies for 20 years and FMC Corp for 17 years. He liked to fish, camp, square dance and was a great storyteller. He liked traveling throughout the United States with his wife after retirement. He was a life member of VFW and Gate of the Temple Masonic Lodge where he was awarded his 50 year membership. He served his country in WWII with the 8th Army Air Corps in England. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 10:00 AM in Asbury United Methodist Church under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home Assistance League, 1600 S. Hickory, Mt. Vernon, MO 65712.
