Darrel C. "Midge" Dennis

Darrel C. "Midge" Dennis was born Oct. 4, 1929, the son of Ray T and Bertha (Zongker) Dennis and went home to be with the Lord on December 16, 2013.

Darrel graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1947 and joined the Air Force in 1951. Upon his return from the Air Force, he worked at Kraft Foods until he retired 41 years later.

Darrel and his wife Liz, were active members at Temple Baptist Church where they served the Lord in many different ministries.

He was also a sports enthusiast and played AAA baseball and was an amazing golfer. He was so proud of his two hole in ones, the one on record and the one off record. He also loved the STL Cardinals and trout fishing.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Liz, his brothers Wayne and Norman, his sisters Laura Lee and Carol Green, a niece Jimalee and a nephew Terry . He is survived by his daughters, Sandra, Karen George and husband Keith and Lisa Wilson and husband Gary; four grandchildren, Megan and Jesse George, and Ashley and Morgan Wilson; his brother Burton Dennis and his wife Rita of Bartonville, IL; sister-in-laws Virginia Dennis, Henderson, NV; June Dennis, Bryant, AR; along with several nieces and nephews.

As a family, we are so blessed to have had two great parents that left an amazing legacy. We are thankful to the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon for the care that they gave our dad during his stay there.

Arrangements are being handled by Walnut Lawn Funeral Home LTD., 2001 W. Walnut Lawn Street, Springfield, MO., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held Friday, at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Missouri Veteran's Cemetery, Springfield, MO at 1:00 p.m.
