Frank and Helen were true friends. When I became President of the Board at the S.W. Mo. Humane Society many years ago, Frank did several very complimentary pieces on me and stood by me in thick and thin. He was a great source of inspiration and courage to me.

Frank was a wonderful mentor to me when I started out as a reporter for the newspaper in the late 1960s. We remained good friends through the years. I have several fond memories of Frank, but my favorite involves an assignment to visit a dairyman when I accompanied Frank as his photographer. We rode out into the country in my car, with me steering to Frank's vague directions. Finally I asked him how much farther was this fellow's farm. Frank's reply: "I don't know. He just said we should drive until we see good grass on both sides of the road." Well, to my city-bred eye, "good grass" was everywhere! But for the next few miles, Frank schooled me: "Now, that's good grass over there, but it's sorry grass over here..." Eventually we crested a hill and Frank announced: "There's good grass on both sides of the road here. This must be the place." I skeptically turned into the driveway -- and, to my amazement, it was, indeed, the farm we were seeking. I hope that Frank and Helen are happy together, surrounded by good grass...

Never was a man more perfectly named than 'FRANK FARMER!' We met back in the 1970s when I was hired to create Editorial Art for the Sunday editions of The News & Leader. His desk was next to the doorway leading into cartoonist, Bob Palmer's office. Once I was carrying an over-sized drawing in to the newsroom to show Mr. Palmer. Mr. Farmer saw it and wanted to buy it. I never sold it but did let him hang it beside his desk for 3 or 4 years. Newsroom visitors would stop to comment on the work and Mr. Farmer became 'my agent,' setting me up with commissions!
He was always mannerly, had a huge following amongst the readership and was greatly respected for his many interests. He was an endeared, kind-hearted friend over many decades. I extend my condolences to all upon learning of his life's end and knowing Frank Farmer - and his sweet wife - are in Paradise.

Andy and Family
My deepest sympathy on the passing of Frank and your mother. I will always be grateful for the investment he made in us as young men playing American Legion baseball.
May GOD make HIS presence known to all of you in a very personal way at this time.

Many years ago I met Frank while I was playing fiddle at Wilson's Creek. He was a kind man with the kind of common sense and love for the Ozarks that spoke to your heart. I've enjoyed his writing and briefly, his friendship. Travel safely Frank, until we meet in another life.

I never knew a more dedicated journalist than Frank. I had the privilege of working with him, learning from him and being a friend. The Ozarks has lost a bright light.

Frank was a wise mentor for me in my early days with The News-Leader and a straight shooter when I covered the OTC Board of Trustees when he was a member. I will always keep a warm place in my heart for Frank. Sincerest sympathies to the family on the loss of Frank and Helen.

As a former teacher in the Willard School system, I always appreciated all that Frank did for the schools and for young people. He had the ability to encourage students with his sense of humor and vast knowledge in many areas. God bless, Lynette Thomas

Frank was number ONE on the list of true FRIENDS OF AGRCULTURE in Southwest Missouri. He rose above one-party politics and led many progressive movements for the betterment of the dairy and beef cattle industry. While a Dade County cattleman and during my involvement with the formation of the Missouri Cattlemans' Association, I worked with Frank as he helped us impart information about many industry successes in the 1970's and 1980's. Cattlemen can all be proud of his life's work.
