I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy. I did not know him, but I wish I had. I recently learned about your son and his death from a recent Newsleader article about closing the gap in mental health services.
Sam's story deeply resonated with me, as I see my beatiful younger brother in his story. I lost my brother, Ernie, in 2006. He suffered with anxiety and depression from his teens extending into adulthood. He was active in gymnastics as a youth and loved to draw. His favorite classical music artist was Vivaldi and he appreciated works of art by Modigliani.
I did everything I knew to help him; however, I felt very much alone. It was terrifying. He died from alcohol abuse at the age of 38. A part of me died with him that day in July.
I was angry. I could not get anyone to see that at the core of his disease was mental/emotional. He needed help quickly to save his life.
I will always wonder if there were more I could have done.
I hope you do not mind that I have posted a photo of my brother.
Thank you for starting the conversation, and please reach out if there is anything I can do.

I lost my husband 3 years ago to suicide. He struggled with depression as well as alcohol abuse. I suffer from depression as well. Almost 2 years after his death ive tried to make it into something positive. I volunteer at AA and also attend a suicide support group here in springfield. If i can help one person then he didnt die in vain. I pray this young man is at peace. Now is a time to help, we should never judge. Please feel free anyone reading this if you need help with alcohol abuse or suicide grief or just need an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on reach out to me. If i can't help you personally i will find someone who will. Bless Sam and his family and may his memory be one of love and joy.

To the Holmes Family:
We were heartbroken to learn of Sam's death. We enjoyed meeting Sam and your family during summer golf outings with our sons. Levi and Tanner always enjoyed being paired with Sam and thought the world of him as a fellow golfer and friend. Our most heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you at such a terrible time.
