Ciro Eugene "Gene" Cerra, 88, of Fort Myers, passed away November 22, 2012. He was born August 16, 1924 in Allston, Massachusetts to the late Joseph and Albina (Scipione) Cerra. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Rona; daughters, Robin Coles, Harriet Grenier and her husband Michael, Alaina Dempsey and her fiancé Phil, Michele Barney and her husband Joe; sons, Wayne Cerra, Mark Cerra and his wife Marilyn and Barry Cerra and his wife Cynthia; brothers, Joseph Cerra and Ernest Cerra; 27 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Gene came to Lee County in 1991 from Woburn, Massachusetts. He loved to play pool and golf and wood working. He was a life member of the American Legion, VFW
, Combat Infantry Association and the Bonita Men's Club. He was also a member of the Southwest Chapter of ABATE. He served our country in the US Army and was in 3 major battles in Germany with the 97th Infantry. He earned a Bronze Star
among several other medals.
There will be a visitation on Sunday from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, Florida 33907. Funeral will begin at 1:00 PM.
