Leland Glenn(1920 - 2013)

Dr. Leland K. Glenn, M.D.

Leland K. Glenn, M.D. was born in Gastonia, North Carolina on July 5, 1920. He attended Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina. In February 1941, he joined the Army Air Corps and completed flight training November 30, 1941. He was assigned as flight instructor in the Advanced Flying School in Dothan, Alabama, where he remained for several years. Later he had training in B-17 Bombers and at the time of separation from service was flying P-47 Fighters with the First Air Force.

Following military service, he returned to Lenoir-Rhyne College to complete his degree. Attendance at Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University followed and he obtained his M.D. degree in 1949.

He then was engaged in industrial medicine with the Gulf Oil Corporation and Cannon Mills. In 1953, he returned to school at Emory University to specialize in diseases of the eye, ear, nose and throat.

After this, he moved to Fort Myers, Florida to establish practice. Shortly thereafter, he limited his practice to Ophthalmology and was Board Certified in that field of medicine. He retired November 1, 1974.

Leland and his wife, Eileen, enjoyed many years traveling after retirement.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Patricia Fleming and her husband Philip of Terra Ceia, Florida and Kirk Glenn and his wife Susan of Hilton Head, South Carolina; sister, Helen Coffey of Clearwater, Florida; and two grandchildren, Robert and Jennifer Fleming.
