Ludwig Zeller(1921 - 2013)

Ludwig August Zeller

June 5, 2013

Ludwig (Lud) August Zeller transitioned in his sleep on June 5, 2013. He was born July 7, 1921 in Miltenberg, Germany, son of Augusta Brandt Zeller and Johann Friedrich "Fritz" Zeller. Lud's father died when he was very young and his mother subsequently married the man Lud called "Pop," Karl Sebastian Mittnacht. Lud immigrated to the USA in 1929 and considered himself an American immediately upon arriving. He became a US citizen in 1937 and was very proud of being American. He attended Public School #70 in the Bronx, NY. The family moved to Lambertville, NJ in the 1930's where he attended Lambertville HS. In Lambertville he met, courted and married his life's love and companion Suzanna June Brightbill on November 20, 1941.

Lud served as an aircraft metal-smith in the US Navy and during WWII in the Pacific theater. After the war Lud, June and his parents purchased and settled on a farm in Holland Township near Milford, NJ where they raised three sons, chickens and cows, selling eggs, beef and milk. Lud also had a 37 1/2 year career at the General Motors Ternstedt Division in Trenton NJ, retiring as a General Forman in 1980. After retirement, Lud and June left the Holland Township farm and split their time between Bernville, Pa and St. James City, FL, dancing, boating, fishing, building, puttering, brewing beer and creating wines.

Lud enjoyed, and was himself good company, telling stories, sharing food, and helping/being helped by neighbors. He passed on his enjoyment all that as well as his ability to make or fix just about anything to his sons and anyone else willing to learn. Also high on Lud's tutorial list was the "rule of seventy-two" for investing, at which he excelled. He approached problems by looking for the assignable cause, then creating and applying a remedy. When asked about his times, Lud said "I did everything I wanted to do and loved life."

Lud is survived by his wife June (95), their three sons Karl Zeller of Wellington, CO, Fred Zeller of Cape Coral, FL, Tom Zeller of Baltimore, MD, nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of Ludwig's life later this summer in PA and another in November in St. James City, FL Please contact Tom Zeller tzeller@early.com for more information. Sympathy cards can be sent to June & Family at 2948 Buttonwood Key Court, St. James City, FL 33956.
