Mary Jo Hassett
Mary Jo Hassett passed on 2/11/13 at Hope Hospice. Born Mary Josephine Spaulding on 5/9/1920 in San Francisco, California to Emma (Zerr) Spauldidng and Captain Joseph Spaulding. She attended San Francisco College and taught in the California public school system until her marriage to F. Leo Hassett.
They moved to Detroit, Michigan where she taught and after receiving a Masters from Michigan State, counseled in the Detroit Public Schools until her retirement.
In 1981, shortly after retirement, Mary Jo and Leo moved to the Seven Lakes Golf and Tennis Community in Fort Myers, Fl. Mary Jo was very active in the commuity and was an avid golfer, reader, member of the Sea Grape Chapter, Embroiderers' Guild of America and traveler.
Mary Jo is predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Leo Hassett, her sister, Patricia Spaulding, and her parents. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Marie (Hassett) Cave and a niece, Susan Cave of Fredonia, New York; a nephew, John Cave of Spotsylvania, Va.; 3 grandnephews and many dear friends. She will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery with her husband. Memorials may be sent to Hope Hospice.
