Melvin "Mel" Saul , 78, long time resident of Cape Coral, Fl, beloved husband and best friend of his lady Alda for 56 years, passed away surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for and loved on January 27th, 2014.
Mel was born in Seattle, WA to Melvin and Lillian Saul. Upon graduating from Queen Anne High School in 1953, he joined the Army
and traveled the world. He served our country (doing 2 tours in Viet Nam) for 22 years. He moved his family to Cape Coral in 1977 and worked for the Post Office for the next 20 years. Mel was always active in his family and his community wherever his life carried him. Starting in Heidelberg Germany where he became a Mason, joining the Scottish Right and Shrine while stationed in Okinawa Japan. He joined the Araba Shrine in Ft. Myers shortly after moving to Lee County, becoming Potentate in 1992. He was a member of the "Q", served on the board at the Shrine hospital for children in Tampa and is a past member of the fun and folic, keystone kops and jeepsters units. For Mel, like all shriners it was all about the children. Mel is survived by his wife Alda, daughter Janet (Michael) LeBoeuf of Cape Coral, FL, his sons Roger (Mary) Saul of Oxford PA and James (Elizabeth) Saul of Smithton, PA. To include his sisters Gail Latimer of Bellingham WA, Patti Jo Burke of Kent, WA and brother Gordon Saul of Raymond, WA., 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Lillian Saul and brothers, Roger and Gary Saul. A Memorial Service will be held 2pm Saturday, February 1, 2014 at The Araba Shrine 2010 Hanson St, Fort Myers, FL 33901. In lieu of flowers the family respectively requests donations be made to The Araba Shrine Center 2010 Hanson St, Fort Myers, FL 33901 or the Cape Coral Hope Hospice House 2430 Diplomat Pkwy. E.
