Merle F. Stackhouse, 92, of North Fort Myers, FL passed away on March 23, 2013. Mr. Stackhouse was born in Alliance, OH on October 22, 1920. He owned and operated his own aluminum products company for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jennie who passed in 2003 after 65 years of marriage. He was a veteran of the US Navy and a member of the Navy Armed Guard. His Navy decorations included the American Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Metal, WWII Victory Ribbon and the European Theater Ribbons. His memberships included, American Legion Post 38 for over 65 years and former Sgt. At Arms, Sons of the American Legion, 40 & 8 Voiture #790, 40 & 8 Voiture # 799, VFW Post 10127, Amvets Post # 81. He had served various positions in his posts including Honor Guard, correspondent, Chef de Gare, Grand Aide de Camp and the train crew. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Carol VanVlack and his grandson, Robert Ramsey; and many special friends including Randy Eck and Jim Goblet. A Memorial Service will be held April 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the American Legion Post # 38, 1857 Jackson St., Fort Myers, FL 33901. The family is being assisted by Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
