James R. "Jim" Marks, 55, of Cape Coral, FL passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013. He was born October 27, 1957 to Harry C. and Elizabeth "Betty" in Waverly, IA. As much as Jim loved Iowa, he couldn't wait to move to FL with Molly in 1980. They settled in Cape Coral in 1982 and after owning Jim Marks Roofing, Inc. for 20 years and afterwards retiring from the roofing business, Jim opened House of Drums, traveling the country with various bands and playing his drums for the next 10 years. Jim and Molly planned to retire in Rabun County, GA where he was active in the real estate business. Throughout his life, Jim was passionate about his family, his work ethic and achieving new goals. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years Molly; 2 loving daughters Elizabeth (Michael) Ruth and Michelle (Christopher) Haberman; one cherished granddaughter Madison Ruth; dear brother Jeff (Gail) Marks; nephew Jake (Melanie) Marks of Atlanta, GA and niece Amanda (Joe) Mastroianni of Naperville, IL. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23rd at Coral Ridge Funeral Home in Cape Coral between 10 - 11am with memorial service to follow. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Health Park Medical Center c/o LMHS Foundation, PO Box 2218, Fort Myers, FL, 33902. I am very glad I was able to meet Jim two years ago when you welcomed us for a visit while we were vacationing in the area. He instantly became my cousin, not just Molly's husband. You and the girls are definitely in my prayers tonight.

Molly and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I am Jim's first cousin. My Dad, George and his Dad Harry were brothers. I was just a young girl when I saw Jim last and new him as Jamie. My memory of him was playing drums. I am so glad that music/drums were a part of his life. May God grant you grace during this difficult time.

The unexspected death of Jim shocked us deeply. We can´t imagine to come to Florida without sitting with Jim at the pool and chat. We know Jim since 21 years and he was always a wonderful and special friend for us. We loved his official and private gigs. In a piece of our hearts he will always play the drums.

I haven't stopped thinking of you guys since this happened. I wish I could come and hold you all! We are all thinkin of you guys everyday. And we all love you. Jim was truly a good friend to my brother, Tim Gielau, and we will always remember how Jim and Molly helped and supported our family when Tim had his stroke. Jim was a wonderful family man and we admired him very much. The Marks family is in our prayers. We are saddened by this terrible loss.
