Edgar Dewey Skelly, Jr., 81, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013. He was born December 6, 1931 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late Edgar, Sr. and Mary Ellen (Styler) Skelly. In addition to his parents, Edgar is preceded in death by sisters, Elynore Thorne and Jean Combs and brother Richard Skelly.
After graduating from Jefferson High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he served our country honorably in the US Navy and was an extremely proud patriot. Ed and his wife, Rose, retired to Fort Myers in 1995 from Mountainside, New Jersey. He had spent a lengthy career as a national accounts service manager with AT&T. For fun, Ed enjoyed golf, boating, working on landscape projects, cars, traveling and socializing with his friends and family. Ed was clearly loved by everyone he met.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Rose; sister-in-law, Pat Solas of Whiting, New Jersey; brothers-in-law, John Murphy of Mount Dora, Florida and Martin Murphy of Greenbrook, New Jersey; nieces, Arleen Read of Lakewood, New Jersey; Nanci Thompson and Wendy Jordan of Egg Harbor, New Jersey; Judy Reagan of Jackson, Mississippi; Dionne Santomauro of Piscataway, New Jersey; Lori Horrigan of Jackson, New Jersey; Linda Dilger of Milford, New Jersey; Diane Goldstein of Berwyn, Pennsylvania; and nephews, Christopher Skelly of New Providence, New Jersey; "Skip" Combs of Confer, Colorado and Robert and John Murphy of Plainfield, New Jersey; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
There will be a memorial service on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 11:00 am at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, Florida 33907. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Following the service will be military honors and interment in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
