Fleming was known throughout Florida as a tireless civic volunteer shepherding many grass-roots political organizations and movements promoting the betterment of the community in which he lived. He was a constant strong voice advocating for issues affecting his beloved home of Lehigh Acres.
He also was well known along the sidelines of a Canes football game for more than three decades where, in his persona of "Yamma, Yamma," Fleming led the Cane faithful acting as the University of Miami's No. 1 fan. A tribute to him can be found at www.miami.scout.com in the football forum list.
Appointed by Governor Jeb Bush in 1999 to the East County Water Control District, and re-elected by affirmation in 2000, and 2004, Fleming decided to make a run this year for a state legislative seat.
