James B. Jones III, remembered as a "man of the world," died February 24, 2013. He was 82.
Born January 15, 1931, Jones, better known as Jim, grew up in the coastal town of Brunswick, GA. After graduating Glynn Academy High School in 1949, Jones attended the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. While attending Georgia Tech, he was in the marching band and Army ROTC. Jones graduated in 1955 with a degree in electrical engineering and went on to serve his active duty requirement, earning the rank of captain with the Army's 310th Chemical Company. He later attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ and earned a MBA in 1977.
During his years at Georgia Tech he met a nursing student named Angelyne Brumbelow; the two married in September 1953.
A passionate traveler and adventure seeker, Jones and his wife traversed the globe. Overseas employment took them to Afghanistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia, and several trips took them from London to Beijing and many places in between before retiring to Fort Myers. Jim liked to say this was his second tour of duty in Fort Myers (1958-1966 and 1989-2013).
Jones is survived by his wife Angie, their three sons Keith, Dell and David, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service is planned at 2 pm on April 6, 2013 in St. Lukes Episcopal Church 635 Cleveland Ave. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation in his name to Hope Hospice, Florida Guardian ad Litem Foundation or
