Margaret V. "Peggy" Papson

Margaret V. "Peggy" Papson, 95, of Ft. Myers Florida, and longtime resident of Midland, Michigan passed away Thursday February 20, 2014 in Ft. Myers. Peggy was born November 29, 1918 in Tarrs/Youngwood PA., daughter of the late Domencco and Christine (Logrecco) DeMatteo.

She graduated from high School at the age of 16 and went to work for Robertshaw in suburban Pittsburgh making thermostats and machine parts for Great Britain prior to WWII. Peggy was later employed by Howard Johnson at the New Hempfield, PA Turnpike Plaza near Stanton, PA. There she met and later married Albert J Papson November 19, 1942 in St. Petersburg, FL. where Albert was training for the Merchant Marines. Peggy lived in St. Petersburg, New Orleans, San Francisco and Seattle as Albert's home ports changed. Upon deployment to the South Pacific, adventurous Peggy remained in Seattle and worked for Boeing in manufacturing for the war effort. After the war, Peggy and Albert returned to Greensburg, PA and settled into his family moving business. In 1953 she and Albert moved to Saginaw to venture out on their own. They purchased Whipple Moving and Storage in Midland in 1956 which became Midland Moving and Storage. Peggy worked as the Office Manager for the company and after the death of Albert on November 13, 1985 she took over day to day operations with her son Dennis. In 1995 Midland Moving and Storage was sold and Peggy relocated to Ft. Myers, FL. where she enjoyed the weather, beaches, art shows, plays, and travel to the Islands, Sanibel and Key West and many special events.

Surviving are her children, Albert G. Papson Jr. and his wife Leni of Chicago; Dennis J. Papson and his wife Jan of Novi; Carole A. Papson of Ft. Myers, FL; and granddaughter, Jennifer McGrew of Boca Raton, FL.

Funeral and committal services for Peggy will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014 from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler St. Midland, MI. Chaplin Wayne Shidler, of Heartland Hospice, will officiate with burial to take place in Midland City Cemetery. Margaret's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12 noon until time of services.
