In Loving Memory of
Mark William Ahlbrand
Sept. 21, 1955 - Dec. 24, 2013
Mark William Ahlbrand, 58, of Naples, FL went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 24, 2013. Mark grew up in Ft. Wayne, IN. He graduated from Indiana University in 1977 with a B.S. degree in political science/forensics. He graduated from Valparaiso Law School in 1979 with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree in courtroom litigation and criminal justice. He attended the Naval Justice School in Newport, RI as a Commissioned Officer in the JAG Corp, U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Jacksonville, FL. Upon leaving the Navy, Mark worked as assistant state attorney for Lee County, and later worked in private practice in Ft. Myers as a defense attorney.
Mark was an avid lover of the sea and sailing. "If you want to talk to your Creator, take a walk on the beach at sunrise." His humor and wit was a source of joy for all who knew him. He was passionate about animals, our government and its military. His church home was Celebration Beach Church, Naples.
He is survived by his children, Erik and Allison Ahlbrand (Orlando), his beloved parents, Dr. and Mrs. Roland (Marilyn) Ahlbrand (Bonita Springs, FL), and his sisters, Linda Keller (Denver, CO) and Lisa Twadell (Gurnee, IL).
A service honoring Mark's life will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Naples on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Naples.

Mark was a brilliant and very effective prosecutor. In my mind, few have ever left a more positive impression. One day we struck up a spiritual conversation about places of worship and subsequent to that Mark -along with his family- attended our home church Grace United Methodist, in Cape Coral, Florida. May his soul rest in peace. My condolences go out to his entire family.

My deepest sympathies go out to the entire Ahlbrand family, particularly to Dr. and Mrs. Ahlbrand, Linda and Lisa.
Remembering childhood memories from growing up with Mark on Northlawn Drive in Fort Wayne, foretold the success he would achieve during his adult life. My mother and I remember the silver tongue and wit he displayed even as a child. Qualities I'm sure he employed in the court room. I also remember admiring him as being the only kid in the neighborhood who could talk to my mother like an adult and make her laugh.
One of my fond memories from back then is playing the board game of Risk in the backyard with Mark. He taught me how both strategy and luck were important in achieving success. Lessons even more cherished on those occasions when I would beat him at the game he taught me to play.

Dear Ahlbrand family,
I'm so sorry to hear about Mark. I was just in Ft. Wayne for another classmates memorial service (Gwen Buesking Moore) and Tom Terrell and I drove by Marks house and had a wonderful conversation about Mark. While there we went to a Concordia game and relived some history, Mark was part of my story and history. He made me laugh everyday. We had great talks and fun! His practical jokes with Linda were epic, the best and they made everyone smile! I loved Mark but know he is resting in the loving arms of his Savior. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers! Mark was my neighbor at Harbor lakes. He was always ready to help me carry my grocerys in, take out my garbage etc. He had such a sense of humor. I enjoyed his company at the pool. He loved the sun and water. He had a great outlook on his life when he learned of his illness. He said "God has a plan and whatever it is I accept it." He is in Peace now. God Bless You All.

Dear Bud, Marilyn, Erik, Allison, Linda, and Lisa,
This world with its challenges and problems is not the end for any of us. While on this earth, Mark demonstrated a strong belief in the Lord. Rest assured that Mark is with Him now and is at peace.
