WILLIAM CLOUTIER BRADLEY, MD

Dr. William Cloutier Bradley passed away on October 26, 2012with his wife and daughter at his side after a courageous battle with bladder cancer diagnosed in 2010. Best known as Bill, a Physician, Entrepreneur, great Dad and loving husband, he was born August 15, 1930 in Andover, MA to Charles E and Edmee (Cloutier) Bradley, Jr., Real Estate Brokers. He graduated from Phillips Andover Academy in 1948, Yale College Pre-Med major in 1952 and graduated from New York Medical School in 1956, serving an Internship Worcester City Hospital, Worcester, MA and Residencies at Flower and Fifth Avenue and Metropolitan Hospitals in New York City. He was married to Mary Ann Williams from 1958 to 1975. Following residency, he reported as a Lieutenant in the USNR to Patuxent River Naval Air Test Station in Maryland serving as the Chief of the Outpatient Department and Obstetrical/Gynecology Clinic, earning the rank of LT. Commander during the years 1960-1962. He then transferred to reserve duty at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard medical clinic being honorably discharged in October of 1962.

Bill opened his OB/GYN practice in Portsmouth and Exeter, NH in 1962. He was an instrumental party in developing Lafayette Professional Park starting in 1963, which over a 20 year span, became a five building complex. He was the first to add a partner and then a third in the practice in the area. Bill was also the developer of Country Club Estates and Winnicutt Woods in seacoast NH.

Bill served as Chief of the Medical Staff and a Board of Trustee member for the Portsmouth Hospital. His was the voice that brought the concerns of the Physician community about the aging and inadequacy of the hospital that ultimately led to the sale of the hospital to HCA and the opening of a brand new facility in 1987. He was on the search and transition committee for that and also became Chairman of the Board, greeting patients transferred on opening day.

In 1984, he married his best friend, Diane, RN and gained another son. In 1987, Bill and Diane formed a healthcare consulting company, The Bradley Group, to assist hospitals with accreditation issues and established a part time residence in Fiddlesticks Country Club, Fort Myers, FL; full time in the mid 1990s. They also were hired by InterQual, Inc. part time, based in North Hampton, NH, as consultants in Quality, Utilization and Risk Management. In 2005-2008, Dr. Bradley was hired as a Consultant Physician Advisor to Case Management at the former Southwest Florida Medical Center and Gulf Coast Hospital.

Dr. Bradley devotedly loved his family and his pets. He was a wrestler in college, golfer and a boater. A member of the Rye Beach Club, Abenaqui (NH) and Fiddlesticks Country Clubs, he later chided himself that he made Diane into a golf nut. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Diane (Trefethen Roberson), daughter, Cathi Makos (John), Lehigh Acres, FL, sons, Skip Bradley, Albuquerque, NM and Erik Roberson (Heather) Rochester, NH, as well as grandchildren, Brianna and Colby Makos and Liam and Evan Roberson, brothers, Charles (Noel), Darien, CT and Robert (Maria) Bradley, Boston MA, sister, Barbara Caswell, Rye Beach, NH and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held at Fiddlesticks Country Club on Saturday November 10 from 2-4 P.M. Friends who reside out of Fiddlesticks, please call at 239-768-1367 to be placed on the gate entry list.
