LOUETTA YOUNG HOLST

Louetta Young Holst, 88, of Fort Myers, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014. She was born on October 15, 1925 in Columbia, South Carolina.
After graduating from high school in Columbia, Louetta spent a year at Mary Baldwin College in Virginia. She then graduated from University of South Carolina in 1947.
Louetta was employed at Colonial Williamsburg and then with the University of Florida in the Archaeology Department where she met her husband John ("Jack"). In 1961 they moved back to Jack's hometown of Fort Myers. She was a stay-at-home mother while her children were young, but restarted her career in the 1970's. She retired from employment as a Secretary III at Lee County Natural Resources Management in 1994.
Louetta was a devoted member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild for many years. Known for her southern drawl, she had a gentle and caring soul.
Louetta is survived by her two daughters: Mamie Holst of Fort Myers and Louetta Muller and husband, Gary, also of Fort Myers; her grandchildren: Christopher DeGroot and Stephen Muller; her great grandchildren: Kaley and Madison DeGroot; her sister-in-law, Jacqueline Shoemaker of Fort Myers; her nieces and nephews: Kathryn Garcia, Susan DeForge, Diane Geater, John Shoemaker, John Willis, Garry Willis and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband John George Holst, Jr.; her parents Harold Abner Young, Sr. and Lillian Cochran Young, and her brother, Harold Abner Young, Jr.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday July 15 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 2635 Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers.
