Wendy Kay Romeis went Home to Jesus on August 11, 2014. She had been kicking cancer's butt for over three years, and after another recent lung surgery to remove more cancer, developed sepsis and peacefully took her last breaths with all her family around her.
Wendy was born May 30, 1987. She was a delightful child to raise and was always sunny and sweet. At age 15, Wendy began her first job at Chick-Fil-A where she worked until her employment at the Lee County Sheriff's Office. There she worked as a Records Clerk, even throughout chemo and surgeries, until her final surgery July 31st. Wendy loved both jobs and racked up so many friends and loved ones. Our family is so grateful for the support of the management and staff at the Lee County Sheriff's Office who went out of their way to adjust her schedule as needed, and supported her throughout her cancer treatment.
If you were a friend of Wendy's, you knew love and caring support. She agreed that there are no strangers, only friends you haven't met yet. Her sense of humor and fun were a delight to all who knew her. She was well loved, and loved well.
Wendy loved God. She never wavered in her faith and trust in Him during her darkest times in her illness. She never asked, "Why me?" Instead, she would say that it was better for her to be ill than someone else. Even when she physically was ill and weak, she was concerned about and took care of others. She knew that God had a plan for her, and had complete trust in Him. Wendy understood and received grace and forgiveness.
Wendy is greatly loved and missed by her parents, Gordon and Cindy Romeis; her sister, Beki (husband, Deric) Romeis-Markham and her twin, Richard (wife, Krista). Wendy will be missed by her niece, Cordelia Romeis-Markham, her Peanut. Wendy's friend Shell Kervel will also miss her terribly.
A Celebration of Wendy's Life will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11AM at First Christian Church of Fort Myers, 2061 McGregor Blvd. A light reception will follow. The family requests that everyone wear jeans and yellow t-shirts. Yellow is the color for osteosarcoma support. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Barbara's Friends - Golisano Children's Hospital Cancer Fund by calling 239-343-6950 or giving online at http://www.leememorial.org/foundation/make-a-donation.asp
The Chick-fil-A @ Cypress Lake will be hosting a day in honor of Wendy's life on September 2nd. Proceeds will benefit the Children's Cancer hospital at HealthPark, who took such wonderful care of Wendy since her diagnosis. We hope you can come by, eat a lot of food, and have a lot of fun remembering our Wendy. She was working hard for this event! We hope to see you there.
