NOVEMBER 17, 2011

Dewey Mockler 67, of Fort Myers passed away peacefully after a brief illness on November 17, 2011.

Dewey attended Edison Junior College and was a member of one of the first graduating classes at Edison. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Florida State University and received his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Florida.

After law school, Dewey came to Fort Myers to begin his practice of law. His main area of practice was in Family and Marital Law. Dewey loved the practice and was a well respected member of the bar.

During the Viet Nam Era Dewey was a member of the Air force and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He was a member of the Lee County Bar Association, American Bar Association, The Florida Bar Association and The Florida Academy of Trial Lawyers. He was also admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida.

He is survived by his loving wife, Terry, his children Colby (his fiance, Cailin) and Katy Mockler, Step-Children Kevin Brown (Jessica) Emily Brown Beare (Matt) and Rusty Brown, Grandchildren Jordan ad Kaylee Brown, Sister Carolyn Vero (Fred), Brothers Kurt Mockler (Nancy) and Craig Mockler (Kathy) and several nieces and nephews.

Dewey was an avid reader consuming novels and publications. He loved music, his favorite being anything by the Eagles and shared the story of his trip with Terry to Winslow and the picture of him "Standing on the Corner in Winslow Arizona" with everyone. Another of Dewey's favorite things was his Maine Lobster. Dewey would surprise his friends and family by Fed Exing a few Maine lobsters for a great surprise.

Dewey's roots always remained in Maine. He built a cabin there several years ago and that was his favorite place to be.

Dewey will be greatly missed by his loving family, many friends and co-workers. He will leave a huge void in our lives.

A celebration of Dewey's Life will be held at Harvey-Engelhardt Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 11 am.
