Sister Mary Emmanuel Kilkenny, O.S.C., 92 of Our Lady of Lourdes passed away peacefully December 12, 2011 in Ft. Myers, FL. She was born November 19, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY a daughter of the late James and Catherine (nee Duffy) Kilkenny. Sister Mary Emmanuel entered the Monastery of St. Clare in Bordentown, NJ on September 17, 1949. She received the habit on May 29, 1950. Sister Mary Emmanuel made her First Profession of Vows on May 30, 1951 and her Final Profession of Vows on May 31, 1954. Sister Mary Emmanuel served as Vicaress of the Monastery of St. Clare in Bordentown, NJ from 1963 - 1969, transferred to Christ of King Monastery in 1969, where she served as Abbess from 1969-1978, and Vicaress from 1978-1981. She was a Foundress of San Damiano Monastery of St. Clare in Ft. Myers Beach, FL on May 14, 1988, where she served as Abbess from 1988-2005. She is survived by her sister, Mary Owens of Flushing, NY, sister-in-law, Mary Kilkenny and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph and James. A viewing will be held in the chapel at the Monastery of St. Claire, 6029 Estero Blvd., Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931 on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 from 1:00 P.M - 5:00 P.M., Thursday, 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M., and Friday, 8:00 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Church of the Ascension, 6025 Estero Blvd., Ft. Myers Beach, FL 33931. Memorials in her name may be made to the Monastery of St. Clare, Fort Myers Beach, FL. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home.
