KENNETH PLACE Obituary

KENNETH PLACE

February 14, 2012

Kenneth Place of Cape Coral, FL, formerly of Albany, NY passed away on Valentine's Day, 2012 at the age of 92. He joins his wife of 38 years, Mary Elizabeth Place, in the hereafter.

He was born on August 21, 1919 in Rutland, Vermont to Florence Reenan and George Place.

On October 26, 1940 he married Mary Elizabeth Seeley. They had two children: Kenneth George Place and Tina Lynn Place Sherman.

Ken was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving proudly in World War II. As a Chief Boatswain's Mate, he served his county for seven years, seeing action in both the Atlantic and Pacific. In July of 1944, Ken suffered a severe injury to his left hand during a mine sweeping operation in the China Sea. Ken didn't let this injury prevent him from living a full and productive life.

Ken has been a Florida resident since 1975. Ken moved to Cape Coral in 1984. He enjoyed his retirement in Florida. He played golf and loved swimming and exercising in his backyard pool. Ken continued to enjoy water skiing with his family until the age of 80. Ken was a sports enthusiast and loved watching sports on television, especially football.

Ken will be remembered fondly for his unwavering support and for his loving, thoughtful and generous ways. He exemplified a positive attitude and tremendous strength. He was a proud dad, a devoted father, husband and friend. He will be greatly missed, never forgotten and forever loved.

He leaves behind a loving family including his adored children, his daughter, Tina Place Sherman, and her husband, Larry of Bonita Springs, FL; his son, Kenneth G. Place, and his wife, Mary Jo of Camden, SC; his wonderful companion of 24 years, Thelma Lally; 1 sister, Dotti Blatnick of North Ft. Myers, FL and 2 brothers, George Place, and his wife Betty of Oklahoma and Douglas Place of California; his dogs Missy and Roxy, many nieces and nephews and a community of friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, his sister Florence Bouford and brother Clarence Place.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
