Luverne "Vern" O. Landey

Luverne "Vern" O. Landey 81, of Estero, FL died peacefully on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at North Collier Hospital with his family by his side. He was a winter resident of Estero for the past 28 years, also calling Howe, IN home. Vern was born February 14, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN a son of the late Jens and Thea (Noss) Landey. He attended the University of Minnesota before entering the military in 1951. Mr. Landey was a veteran of the United States Air Force, stationed at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii, during the Korean Conflict. Vern owned and operated Vanguard Industries of Michigan, Inc., manufacturing recreational vehicles from 1968 until the time of his retirement in 2003. In 1986 he purchased Wildcat Run Golf & Country Club and developed it into the golf community that it is today. Vern was an avid golfer who enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching Minnesota Vikings football. He also had his private pilot's license and a passion for flying. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Betty J. Landey; children, Karen Landey of Beaverton, OR, Jeanine Landey of Tulsa, OK, Sharon (Steve) Richard of Lafayette, CA, Carl Terwedo of Sturgis, MI, Vicki Terwedo of Sturgis, MI, Brian (Ai Yamamoto) Terwedo of Okemos, MI, Scott Terwedo of Chillicothe, IL; 9 cherished grandchildren; and 10 wonderful great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Annabelle and Lloyd Landey. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at 4:00 P.M. at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 S. Tamiami Trail So., Bonita Springs, FL 34134. The family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the . We will miss you greatly and love you forever...
