Our father, Harold Shaw, age 90, of Fort Myers, Florida, has departed his earthly body to be with his Lord and Savior. Harold, born in 1923, was a humble farmer, who while working both the farm and a second job, raised 7 children on a small dairy farm south of Battle Creek, Michigan in a tiny rural town called Joppa. Harold and our mother moved to Fort Myers, FL in 1968 where he became a successful business owner of Anderson and Shaw Sod. Always our mentor, our spiritual advisor, our helper in time of trouble, he showered his children with love, sometimes very tough love, but produced 7 children who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, our mother Anna Belle Shaw in 1987, and was so looking forward to their reunion. He is survived by his 7 children, Karen Whitenton (Joe) of Land O' Lakes, FL, Dee Dee Parlin (Roger) of Estero, FL, Annita Bevins (Del) of Battle Creek Michigan, Tim Shaw (Marsha) of Fort Myers, FL, Paul Shaw (Sandy) of Fort Myers, FL, Pam Shaw, of Battle Creek, Michigan and Mark Shaw (Kathryn) of Cannon Falls, Minnesota. Also surviving him are his 24 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, and he prayed for all 90 of us by name every day. Harold served in the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army in the European Theater during WWII and became a born-again Christian after returning home. He worshiped and loved his Lord Jesus. He would tell you, he was not perfect by any stretch, but he was forgiven. He witnessed to everyone about the love of Jesus and taught us to be the best we could be and to not forget the less fortunate. He taught us about the love from our Heavenly Father and to always remember all of God's children. He was a great father who gave us a great upbringing. We all cherish him and will miss him so much. After preaching this message to all he met, he would want us to put this in his obituary: "Eternity is forever, a very long time. Your time on this earth is but a breath. Accept Jesus now as your Savior so you may spend eternity with Him. Don't miss this opportunity; it may be your last chance". A visitation will be held at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park 12777 State Road 82 Ft. Myers, FL 33913 on Friday, April 12th from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services to take place at 2 PM on Saturday, April 13 at the funeral home. Harold's youngest son, Pastor Mark Shaw will officiate. A special thank you to Hope Hospice who were so gracious and caring, which allowed him to be in his home surrounded by his family as he went to be with the Lord. Info 239-334-4880
