Emil Salzberger Obituary
Emil Salzberger

May 5, 2013

Emil Salzberger, beloved husband of Barbara Salzberger for 56 years, passed away Sunday (May 5, 2013) at age 91. Emil was born in Boston on November 20 and raised in the area by Celia and Nathan Salzberger, while he, himself looked out for his nephew Richard Taylor during this time. Emil worked in the Charleston Naval Shipyard and subsequently served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an infantryman in Europe where he sustained a gunshot wound. A kind and thoughtful man, Emil enjoyed helping others throughout his life. He went on to earn his teaching degree with post graduate work and taught vocational tech and various shop classes in the Wethersfield, CT school system for over twenty years. There he aided students not going on to college to build job skills and find solid careers, in the process holding enjoyable events such as plane washes (oft times resulting in plane rides) and an annual gag gift award ceremony. Long time residents of Newington, CT and members of the Unitarian Society of Hartford, Emil and Barbara raised their two children Mark and Diane there while doing some significant gardening, avidly exercising and maintaining his own small business enterprise until retirement. Initially starting as snowbirds, Emil and Barbara eventually settled in North Fort Myers, FL where Emil helped out his "older" neighbors, made a second career out of giving to charities and were original members of the All Faiths Unitarian Congregation. Emil is survived by his wife Barbara, son Mark and wife Ann, daughter Diane and husband Par, and five grandchildren Kyle, Cameron, Rory, Judy and Carolyn. A memorial service will be held at 3:30PM on Friday May 10 at All Faiths Unitarian Congregation in Fort Myers.
