Cape Coral resident Robert David Stephenson, 86, passed away Monday, November 11, 2013 at the Treasure Coast Hospice in Fort Pierce, FL. He was born on April 22, 1927 in Mackinaw, IL, only child of the late George and Gladys Stephenson.
Robert served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married his beautiful wife, Dorothy Ann Morris, in Morton, IL on October 8, 1949. They resided in Morton until 1973, and then relocated to Cape Coral, FL, where they lived for 40 years.
Robert was a carpenter and general contractor, working in commercial and residential construction throughout his career. He was a member of the Morton, IL VFW, a private pilot, and built his own airplane. He was a member of the Quiet Birdman and Experimental Aircraft Organization. Robert was also a saxophone player in a jazz band.
Robert is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter Peg (Dale) Purcell; son John (Jennifer) Stephenson; grandchildren Robert (Sara) Purcell, Karen Purcell, Randi Stephenson, Wiley Stephenson and Quinn Stephenson; great grandchildren Mara, Christian, Alyssa, Owen, Brogan and Nathen.
Visitation will be from 11:00am to 1:00pm Friday, November 15 at Fuller-Metz Funeral Home in Cape Coral. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm with entombment immediately following at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the
