Edwin Wagner Smiles went to be with The Lord on February 5, 2014. He was born to William and Thelma Smiles on February 28, 1923, in Pittston, PA. He graduated Exeter High School in Exeter, PA. in 1940, and Wilkes Barre Business College in 1943. He served in U.S. Navy during World War II (1943-1946) in the Pacific (Yeomen First Class). He worked at the Washington Post but spent most of his career (37 years) at Southern Railroad from which he retired at age 60. He is survived by his wife of 55 years June Talley Smiles, his sisters-in-law Jean Moreland and Betty Craig and their husbands John Moreland and Robert Craig, nieces and nephews Georgia and Bob Allen, John and Marla Moreland, David and Maya Craig, and Dawn and L. B. Gunn, six great nieces and nephews, seven great great nieces and nephews, first cousins Michael and Rose Brennan, Mae and Joseph Licata, Jean Brennan and their children and grandchildren. Ed was an avid golfer. He loved animals, music (hymns, gospel music, classical and music from the 30's 40's and 50's), sports, and crossword puzzles. He cherished his family and friends immensely. A Celebration of Ed's life will be held at a later date at Church of the Cross, 13500 Freshman Lane Ft Myers, FL 33912. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to Church of the Cross and/or Hope Hospice, 9470 Health Park Circle, Ft Myers, FL 33908.
