Mitch was a good friend of mine. We met in Navy Supply Corps School at the University of Georgia. Upon graduation, Mitch and Kathy drove across country from Athens, Georgia to San Francisco along with me and my wife Beverly and daughter Rebecca. Being poor Ensigns, we camped most of the 30 days trip. And what a trip it was! Pretty sure it was the first time Mitch ever saw snow. And we came close to becoming bear food in Colorado. Once we arrived in Cali, Mitch/Kathy headed for shore duty in the Philippines and Bev, Rebecca and I headed for Hawaii where I caught a Destroyer headed for Vietnam. I was able to visit Mitch/Kathy once when my ship stopped in the Philippines to have our guns repaired a year or so later. As the war was in full bloom and we were providing artillery support for our ground troops, I was unable to visit Mitch/Kathy again.

A few days ago I was contacted out of the blue by another former Navy Officer from our Supply Corps School class (Will McKee). We began reminiscing and while doing so Mitch's name came up. Thinking it would be fun to reconnect with our old pal, Will volunteered to track him down through his Navy intelligence connections. Sadly, we discovered that we were too late in our efforts. Accordingly, I will use this space to bid Mitch farewell and wish him blue skies and following seas. He was definitely one of the good ones.

Mitch and Kathy were there for me when I needed friends and support beginning in 1976. I was their first office employee hired into their tiny office on CC Blvd, at 21 years old. I cannot say here all they meant to me... I just want to send Kathy and family my love and condolences on their loss. You've remained in my thoughts and prayers for years. I'll be forever grateful for the love and wisdom Mitch and Kathy shared with me...

Mitch played a very important role in my life. For many years he was my boss, mentor and friend. He was indeed a great leader, confidence builder, emotional supporter, financial adviser and genuine friend. Mitch always had a way of being positive and bringing laughter into our hearts. I will always be thankful for the time he was a part of my life.

I have had the honor of knowing Mitch for many years and Kathy has been my friend since we were 7 years old. My husband and I met about the same time as Mitch and Kathy in Oregon. Although we haven't saw each other much over the years they have been dear in my heart. When they say Mitch had a smile oh yes he did! My husband and I are thankful to have known him. Rest in peace Mitch and Kathy we love you.
