Carroll Bass Obituary

Carroll Connelly Bass

Carroll Connelly Bass, affectionately known as Charlie to most, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010. He was born in Lynchburg on Feb. 18, 1946, to Ethel Sandridge Bass and the late Bascomb Claude Bass.

In addition to his father, Carroll was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Logan Bass and David Watkins Bass.

In addition to his mother, Carroll leaves behind his long-time fianc‚, Jeanne Keatts, whom he loved dearly, and her four children and five grandchildren: Danny and Tracy Critchley (Ryan, Brittany and Matthew), Sherry Patty, Rhonda and Dennis Bell (Ashley and Brandy), Rodney and Kathy Critchley, all of whom Carroll could not have loved more had they been his own children, especially the grandchildren who called him "PaPa".

He is also survived by a sister, Jean Bass Burns of Lynchburg; three brothers, Ronald Bass, James (Sue) Bass, of Lynchburg and Michael (Karen) Bass, of Madison Heights. He leaves behind several nieces, nephews, friends, an aunt Mildred Roach, of Long Island and a special friend, Danny Clark, whom Carroll praised highly as "his" mechanic.

Although he was not a member of any specific church, Carroll was of the Christian faith and believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed watching Jonathan Falwell deliver his sermon via television and he loved listening to Walter Yancy's radio ministry, Strength for Today during his long road trips as an OTR truck driver for C.B. Fleet Phar-maceuticals. He retired from C.B. Fleet in 2008 after more than 30 years of service.

A service to celebrate Carroll's life is planned for Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service with burial to follow in Virginia Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9p.m., today, Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at Heritage Funeral Service, 427 Graves Mill Road and other times at the residence of his sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Carroll can be made to Walter Yancey's Strength for Today radio ministry, the Elim Home for Men (a ministry of Thomas Road Baptist Church) or Temple Baptist Church.
