Conley Ferguson Obituary
Conley Ellis Ferguson departed this life suddenly on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 2, 1929, the son of the late John S. Ferguson and Bernice Wynn Ferguson. He was the husband of Norma McCoy Ferguson for 57 years.
Mr. Ferguson was a member of White Rock Baptist Church and a retired employee of Lynchburg Foundry, with 42 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening, and his greatest pleasure was building things.
In addition to his devoted wife, he is survived by his son, Michael E. Ferguson (Monica), of Haymarket; his daughter, Sheryl F. Lowe (Walter), of West Bloomfield, Mich.; and four grandchildren, Ashley Lowe, of Arlington, Walter Lowe III, of West Bloomfield, Mich., and Joanna and Josiah Ferguson, of Haymarket.
He was the oldest of four siblings and is survived by his sisters, Cornelia Ferguson (Lester), Pedether Wheaton (Albert) and Patricia Jordan; three nieces, one nephew, one grand-niece; and a host of cousins and friends.
A service will be held at
1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, at White Rock Baptist Church, 401 Florida Ave., with the Rev. James Morris officiating, and the Rev. Ricardo Hairstock as eulogist. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service, and at other times at the home.

Norma, Cheryl, Michael and Ferguson Family: I cannot imagine how you feel right now, but trust that our Comforter is holding you in His arms. Conley was friend to our daddy and another role-model for us of how a husband and father conducted himself. My brothers and I respected him because he'd earned it, not just because we were suppose to do so. I remember those many times Conley, Lester and Jesse met under the big oak tree to "man" talk until one-by-one, they were summoned home for dinner. Conley's gone home for dinner...when we join him, it will be in the presence of Jesus.
