Gladys Mickens Obituary
Gladys Jane Mickens, 90, of Wingina, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at The University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Born Dec. 23, 1919, in Washington, D.C., a daughter of the late Clarence Mickens and Minnie Morse Mickens.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Mickens.
She was a restaurant owner in New York and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory a niece, JoAnne Mickens; two nephews, Richard Mickens and Robert Mickens; and a great-niece, Andrea Mickens.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Shipman, with Pastor Herbert Woodson officiating and the Rev. James Rose eulogist. Interment will follow in the Morse Family Cemetery, Wingina. The family will receive friends the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

"There's peace dear one at last."

"The spirit never dies."
I thought I saw my broken heart,
in the crescent of the moon.
And then I heard the angel say,
"The Lord is coming soon."
I thought that you had left me,
for the stars so far above.
And then I heard the angel say,
"They left you with their love."
I thought that I would miss you so,
and never find my way.
And then I heard the angel say,
"They're with you every day."
"The sun, the wind, the moon, the stars,
will forever be around,
reminding you of the love you shared,
and the peace they've finally found.

Anut Gladys you was the back bone to this family.....And know that your gone...We all have to hold the family together.....You was the but aunt one girl could have and i'm going to miss you deeply....I'm just happy that you got the chance to meet your great great nieces Brittney and Dezyre.....You are going to be miss.....I love you and i'm going to miss you......
