Eunice Gillispie Obituary

Eunice

Brogdon Gillispie

Eunice Brogdon Gillispie, 88, of Lynchburg, died peacefully in her home Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was led into heaven by her beloved daughter, Billie Carol Fulcher, and by the love of her life, Joseph "Papa" Ray Gillispie.

Granny was born Monday, May 9, 1921, in Danville, a daughter of the late Robert Ford Brogdon and Aileen Hamlett Brogdon. She was an upholsterer for 40+ years and was a member of Living Word Baptist Church.

Granny was quite a character. She was a diehard Sammy Sosa/Chicago Cubs fan, had a razor-sharp wit, a priceless sense of humor and usually had a dip of snuff in her lip. Always one to tell you exactly what she thought, most that knew her compared her to Maxine from Hallmark cards. Underneath her funny side, Granny was one of the most caring and compassionate people in the world. Everyone she knew called her Granny because she genuinely made them feel like they were a part of her family, and her family and her God were the most important things in her life. God has definitely gained one spunky angel.

She is survived by her children, Gail Gillispie and husband, Ronnie, of Lynchburg and Cindy Meacham of Forest; her grandson, Scott Gillispie, his fianc?e, Trisha, and his children, Joey and Madison of Forest; her granddaughter, Monica Snow, her husband, Tony, and their daughter, Alexandria "Allie" of Lynchburg; her grandson, Christian Meacham of Lynchburg; her granddaughter, Abbey G. Meacham of Lynchburg; her sister, Norma Royals and husband, William "Bill," of Wilmington, N.C.; and two special friends, Ben Henderson of Ashland and Lashelle Jones of Forest.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 30, 2009, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with Pastor Marvin Suitt officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Living Word Baptist Church, 4130 Waterlick Road, Forest,

VA 24551.

My Deepest Sympathy. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My sincere condolences to Brenda, Cindy and their families. I first met Mrs. Gillispie in high school when Cindy, Stephanie Mayo and I were hangin', to use the current jargon of the young people. She and Billy kept us entertained all the time; and how Ray tolerated all of us and our nonsense I'll never know. I know Mrs. Gillispie will be greatly missed.
