Evelyn Thacker Obituary
"Granny Thacker"
Evelyn Thompson Thacker, 103, of Evington, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, in Lynchburg General Hospital. Twice widowed to Russell A. Rice and Mandred Conway Thacker.
Evelyn was born June 28, 1907, in Nelson County. She was the daughter of the late William Henry and Alice Wright Thompson. She was retired from Craddock-Terry and 35 year member of Mead Memorial United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara T. Marsh, of Evington, and Vivian T. Lyons and husband, Jack, of Monroe; her grandson, Wilson C. Lyons, and wife, Cheri, of Williamsburg; great-grandsons, Brandon Conway Lyons and Taylor Lee Lyons, both of Williamsburg; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, Russell "Rusty" Rice Hopkins; two sons-in-law, Robert M. Hopkins and Buddy Marsh; a sister, Nettie T. Saunders; and seven brothers, Nolan J., Thurman, Eugene, Ronald, Gleason, Richard, and Henry Horsley Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at Mead Memorial Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow at noon at the church, with the Rev. George Hatmaker officiating. Interment will follow at Centenary Memorial Cemetery in Nelson County.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mead Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, 13317 Wards Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

Barbara and Vivian, you probably do not remember me, but I remember coming with my Mother, Lula Harris Mason to visit your mom when she lived at Gladys many years ago. I have thought of your mother many times and wondered about her and if she was still living and where. Please accept my deepest sympathy, but I know that you must have so many blessings having your mother with you for so many years. You will have many wonderful memories to keep you going, as I know that I do with my parents. One of those memories are the visits we made to your home. Mama's mother was Lilly Wright Harris. Mama has been gone from this earth for 35 years, but she still lives very strong in my heart and memories. May God send you His blessings during this time of sadness.

Barbara, Vivian and family: Sure was shocked to read of your mother's death in the paper. She was a wonderful person and I have great memories of you all living in Gladys. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Marilyn and Barbara - in my selfish thoughts, I just knew Aunt Evelyn would be here forever. She was and will always be such an inspiration.
I want to be like her when I grow up :-)
She was so lovable, so witty and so thoughtful. One of the few people you will ever meet that you just can't get enough of. I will miss her and I will never forget her.
But she is one of God's angels now, so we can all have the peace of knowing she has found perfect love... and that is what she represents to me "perfect love".... not one thing about her to not love!
We all love you !!!
