To the family of Buddy Dowdy:

I am sorry I was unable to attend the family night but my thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time.

I also lost my husband "Buddy" in Dec 31, 2008, my sister-in-law Barbara Tomlin on January 1, 2010, my mother Bertha Dowdy Tomlin (Buddy's aunt) on January 25, 2010 and my father O'Donal Tomlin on July 28, 2010. I would like to share a message to your family given to me....

"Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you and you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used to. Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well."

My deepest sympathy and prayers are with all of you during this time. Gosh, my memories are so many. I have known Buddy since I was 16... when David and I began dating. Oh the memories from David's senior prom when we were allowed to take the IROC.. we thought we were something.. I remember Buddy telling David "dont dog it because if you do I will know". I remember the nervous stomach I felt when we had to tell Buddy & Joanne that we were going to make them grandparents when we hadn't even finished high school yet. I remember the sparkle in Buddy's eyes when God blessed the family with his first granddaughter. I remember cookouts, pool time, Danny's band practicing in the basement, but most of all I remember family time at Buddy & Joanne's place. Wow.. and Christmas around there was just magical. After David and I split up, life took our families in different directions and the contact with some of the family disappeared, but they never disappeared from my heart. God allows people to come into our lives for a purpose. Some stay for a long time and some for a short while. I am happy that God allowed Buddy to pass through my life. To the family, I love you all and I pray that God will give each of you peace within and strength.
