James Wirt Obituary

James "Jim" Lee Wirt

James "Jim" Lee Wirt, 47, of Lynchburg, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010. He was born March 9, 1963, in Radford, a son of Claudia Marshall Wirt Roop, of Radford, and the late Shirley Harmon Wirt.

Jim is survived by his life partner, John Skinner, of Lynchburg; his sister, Karen Trent, and her husband, Charles, and their sons, Chaz Trent, Austin Trent and James Cole Trent, all of Richmond; and his brother, Dan Wirt, of Riner, and Dan's son, Josh Wirt, of Radford.

Jim was the owner and operator of Designer's Choice Antiques, Flowers and Gifts in the Boonsboro area of Lynchburg with clients throughout Virginia. He provided his clients with expert advice on interior design and often decorated their homes for Christmas and other events. Jim specialized in helping many of his clients transition from large homes to smaller retirement homes.

All of Jim's friends looked forward to the Christmas open house that he hosted each year. His unique personality, charming wit, thoughtful kindness and the beauty of his work will be long remembered and greatly missed.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, in the chapel at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Nathan C. Brooks III officiating. Memorial contributions in Jim's memory may be made to Centra Hospice, 2097 Langhorne Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

Dear John
I wait everyday for Jim to drive up in the driveway, probably as you do. Then I would come over and listen to his day, good or bad. I guess the funniest times were when they were bad and how he would handle them. He was such a funny guy and so full of life. He was the closes thing to a brother I will ever have, as are you. Werner and I will always miss him, but keep all the fun times we had.
We love you both.

Dan and Karen, I am so sorry to hear about Jimmy's passing. I've been gone for so long, I only remember Jimmy as a kid while we were growing up in Simpkins Village. And I remember he was so funny and full of life. I'm glad he found happiness in his life, even though it was cut far too short.

Dan & Karen
Johnny and I want to send our thoughts and prayers to you both. We were shocked to hear about Jim. Johnny and Ronnie talked last night about memories of days growning up in Simpkins village. He continued with me afterwards. I remember Jimmy the year he was at Auburn, Melinda and I just loved him he hung with us during the choir concerts. Love to all and our deepest sympathy. I was deeply saddened by hearing that Jimmy had passed away. We were close friends as kids in the neighborhood of Simpkins village.
My Mom adored Jimmy as they would spend hours talking of antiques and crafts. I looked forward to the times I saw him again through the years. I know he will be greatly missed. My sympathy to Karen and Dan
