Lilly Maude Carey Pillow

Lilly Maude Carey Pillow, 90, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010. She was the wife of the late Hugh Carlton Pillow.

Mrs. Pillow was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Campbell County, a daughter of the late James Henry Carey and Etta Scott Carey.

She is survived by her sons, Hugh Dennis Pillow and wife, Sherry, of Warrenton, and Barry S. Pillow and wife, Cheryl, of Greensboro, N.C.; a grandson, Adrian S. Pillow, and wife, Heather; her great-grandchildren, Susan, Maxwell and Ava Pillow; her step-grandchildren, Jonathan White and wife, Carla, and Jennifer White; her step-great-grandson, Austin White; and her sisters, Nell Blanks and Reva DeKeyser, both of Lynchburg.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ann Elizabeth Pillow; three brothers, Everett Carey, Shelton Carey and Johnny Carey; and two sisters, Effrie Leftwich and Margie Woodhouse.

Maude was a woman that blessed the lives of everyone she met. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Beulah Baptist Church, where Maude was a member for over 50 years. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Dr. Maurice McCarthy Jr., Pastor Brian Seay, Dr. Carl Collins and the Rev. C. Douglas Pillow officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Hugh and Maude Pillow Local Missions Fund at Beulah Baptist Church, 528 Leesville Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
