Shirley Robinson Obituary

Shirley Colbert

Robinson

Shirley Colbert Robinson, 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Lynchburg on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010. Shirley loved her many, many great friends and neighbors throughout her whole life. She also loved tennis, which she played until age 78, and bridge, for as long as anybody can remember. Her sense of humor helped seal her membership into the proverbial "Cat Bird" club.

She worked briefly for the FBI in Washington, D.C., during WWII, and after returning to her home town, she worked for the Lynchburg Public Schools as Secretary at Janet Snead and Linkhorne Elementary Schools.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Eaton Robinson Jr., and a daughter, Pamela Robinson Parr.

She is survived by a son, Charles E. Robinson III and his wife, Barbara Ferrari, a daughter, Robin Robinson Roberts and her husband, Thomas W. Roberts Jr., of Roanoke, and a son-in-law, Randy Parr. She is also survived by her much beloved granddaughters, Betsy Roberts Thomas and husband, Ben, of Raleigh, N.C., Mary Roberts, of Roanoke, and Sallie Roberts, of Atlanta, Ga.

Shirley also is survived by three sisters, Betty Jean Prencipe, Gertrude Bair, and Phyllis Malley and one brother, Donald Colbert and his wife, Nancy.

The family wants to especially offer thanks for the genuine compassion and friendship shown to Shirley by the caregivers of Generation Solutions, Gentle Shepherd Hospice and First Presbyterian Parish Nurse.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, Sept. 20, 2010, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church on V.E.S. Road, Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, with the Rev. John Scholer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church Nurse Program, 1215 VES Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503, Templeton Senior Center, 225 Wiggington Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503, or Gentle Shepherd Hospice, 22712 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502.

I am so sorry for the loss of your dear loved one. It's comforting to know that God cares for all of us. The Bible gives us hope that one day we can see our loved ones again. On behalf of all mankind Jesus surrendered his soul. John 15:13 says “No one has love greater than this, that someone should surrender his soul on behalf of his friends.” Truly I am sorry to hear of the loss of your dear loved one and I hope these few words will bring you comfort and hope.
