Mrs. Reba Booker Fox

Mrs. Reba Booker Fox 501 VES Road, Lynchburg, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg. She was born in Lynchburg on May 26, 1922, and was 88 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Parham Hubert Booker and Maggie Pillow Booker and was married to Dr. Earl. R. Fox, who survives.

After being Captain of the field hockey team and on the Honor Council at Westhampton College, graduating in 1943, Reba's interests turned to early TV, where she had her own cooking and variety show at WTVR in Richmond and WSUN in St. Petersburg. She was active in the woman's group Salty Sisters in the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, organizing regattas and then active in the wives' group in the Coast Guard after Earl's career change resulting in his retirement as an Admiral. On retirement to South Boston and St. Petersburg, Reba was a member of the DAR and the First Baptist church in South Boston.

Mrs. Reba Booker Fox is survived by her husband, Dr. Earl R. Fox, of Lynchburg; one sister, Mrs. Peggy B. Maddox, of South Boston; three sons, Dr. Parham R. Fox and wife, Patty, of Lynchburg, Mr. Thomas B. Fox and wife, Patty, of Stuart, Fla., and Mr. Earl N. Fox and wife, Kelly, of Hope Mills, N.C.; six grandchildren, Jennifer Fox Robelo, Jeffrey R. Fox, James P. Fox, Vance J. Fox, Rebalu Fox and Edna Mae Fox; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. Thomas Booker, and one sister, Mrs. Linda B. Martin.

A graveside service for Mrs. Reba Booker Fox will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Naruna, with the Rev. Dr. Melvin Bradshaw officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Westminster Canterbury, Hume Room, and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at Powell Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider the First Baptist Church of South Boston, 815 North Main St., South Boston, VA 24592, or Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 267 Ebenezer Road, Gladys, VA 24554.

dearest earl and family, words do not come easily at a time like this, but i want you to know how saddened i was to hear of dear reba's passing. she was a gentle, kind soul, who valiently withstood her ailing health. earl, you were truly and angel, as you lovingly cared for her during her illness while you were here. you and reba have been missed after you left to go to the area where your family could give her additional love and attention as she struggled with continued failing health. please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. may you and your family find the peace which passeth understanding. our love, melinda wagner brett, st. petersburg, florida
