Carroll Rigney Obituary
Carroll Bedford Rigney
Carroll B. Rigney, 76, of Hurt went to be with the Lord on October 12, 2009 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was born August 15, 1933 in Pittsylvania County.
He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox after 35 years of service. Carroll was the son of the late Bedford Henry Rigney and Rissie Tosh Rigney. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicky; a sister, Shirley and a brother, John.
He is survived by a wife of 52 years, Lucy Ann Dillard Rigney, two daughters, Patricia (Patty) Dickey of Evington, Tammy McGann and her husband Stuart of Gretna; one son, Jonathan Rigney and his wife Michelle of Hurt; five grandchildren, Justin McGann and wife Katey, Eric Dickey and his wife Michelle, Jason Dickey, Jessica McGann White and her husband Nick and Kaylynn Mae Rigney; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Natalie and Mallory Dickey, Eliyana McGann and Cathryn White; three sisters, Rebecca Elliott and her husband Carl, Hazel Yeatts and her husband Milton, Mildred Parker and her husband Archie.
He is also survived by some very special friends; Julius and Shirley Medley of Reidsville, North Carolina; Richard and Nancy Wilson; his hunting brothers, Jordan Moorefield and Silas Dalton and a very special nurse who dedicated her time and love, Jewell Hancock.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2009 at New Prospect Baptist Church by the Rev. Brady Willis. Interment to follow at Altavista Memorial Park with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends from 7 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Finch and Finch, Altavista and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers please consider memorial donations to New Prospect Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 547, Hurt, Virginia.
