Delia Henderson Mark
Delia Henderson Mark, 82, died March 10, at Evergreen Woods in North Branford. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter Mark. She was born in Lynchburg, Va. on March 22, 1928, daughter of the late Daniel Henderson and Virginia Ferguson. She was raised in Richmond, Va. and Lynchburg, Va. and attended St. Margaret's School in Tappahannock, Va. Upon graduation from Randolph Macon College in Lynchburg, Va., she moved north to attend Columbia University School of Nursing in New York City. After receiving her BS there in 1952, she taught at the University and worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. She married and eventually moved to Massachusetts, living in the Boston area for several years with her family before moving to Princeton, N.J. where she resided for 36 years. She was the school nurse at Stuart County Day School for 22 years, before retiring in 2000, when she moved to Evergreen Woods. She lived there until her death.
Delia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend to many. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. The students whom she cared for while a school nurse were very special to her. She volunteered her time to local organizations while living in Princeton, and enjoyed a variety of interests including gardening, traveling worldwide, library work, and her beloved pets. While living at Evergreen Woods, she was very involved with many aspects of resident life, including committee membership and participation in the many activities offered. She was an active member of Emmanuel Church in Killingworth and participated in the life of the church there.
She is survived by her daughter Catherine Burdge and her husband Charles, of Killingworth, her grandchildren Lucy Burdge and Peter Burdge, of Killingworth and several cousins.
A funeral service took place on March 14 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Killingworth followed by burial at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Forest, Va. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Evergreen Woods Employee Scholarship Fund, 88 Notch Hill Road, North Bradford, CT 96471. The Swan Funeral Home, Madison, is in charge of arrangements.
