George Watson Obituary

George Raleigh Watson

George Raleigh Watson, 79, of Morton Lane, Appomattox, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at his residence. He was the husband of Peggy O'Neil Watson.

Born in Appomattox County, on Oct. 11, 1931, he is the son of the late Irene Almond, and John W. "Willie" Watson. He formerly worked as the Vice President of Operations for Honeywell, Log-E Tronics and Atlantic Research Corp. He graduated from Appomattox High School, majored in physics and mathematics at Lynchburg College, and received his MBA from Arizona State. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John Watson, of Manakin-Sabot, and Bob Watson and his wife, Susan, of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Betty W. and her husband Lawrence Justis, Jean M. and her husband Peyton Cumbie all of Appomattox; five grandchildren, John Paul, Jeremy, Dawnielle, Breea, and Timothy; four great-grandchildren, Corey, Shelby Lynn, Robert ,and Rebecca.

He was preceded in death by his brother, William Allen (Bill) Watson.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Robinson Funeral Home, by the Rev. Rusty Small. Burial will follow in the Old Herman Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and other times at his home.

He has lived a good life and has been a Wonderful husband and Dad to his children. I will always think of him as a soft spoken intelligent man and I know he will be missed.
