Gracie Virginia Richardson Smith

Gracie Virginia Richardson Smith, lovingly known as "GG" by her grandchildren, departed this life Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010. She was born in Bedford County on March 7, 1919, to the late Oscar and Gracie Richardson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Martin J. Smith, Jr.; her daughter, Phyllis S. Spradley; her son, Martin J. Smith III; and two brothers.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Teresa S. Younger, of Baltimore, Md.; eight grandchildren, Darryl W. Spradley (Wanda), of Amherst, Tonya Spradley and Rodney Spradley, both of Lynchburg, Marlon Smith (Michelle), of Austin, Texas, Lamar Smith, of Baltimore, Md., Martin A. Davis, of Altoona, Pa., Brian Younger, of Appomattox, and Eric Lamberth, of Oakwood; 19 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a very devoted caregiver, Greta Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Rivermont Baptist Church with Pastor Shawn Womack officiating and the Rev. Carlton Logan eulogist. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Her remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family is receiving friends at 301 Grayson St. The cortege will assemble at the church.
