James Edward Gordon

James Edward Gordon, 81, of 107 Riverview Rd., Hurt died Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Virginia Bailey Tucker Gordon.

He was born December 20, 1928 in Halifax County, the son of the late Allie James Gordon and Mary Yancey Gordon. He was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church, a retired employee of Delta Star and loved to go out metal detecting. James was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by one sister, Mary Ann Royster and her husband Alvin of South Boston; one sister-in-law, Minnie Gordon of Chase City; and two nieces and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Austin and two brothers, Richard O. and A. Franklin Gordon.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2010 at Straightstone Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Ralph Grow and the Rev. Mary Jones.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m., Thursday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.
