James D.

Hughes Jr.

James D.Hughes Jr., of Lynchburg passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Lucille Hensley Hughes for 63 years.

Born in Lynchburg on Nov. 14, 1922, he was a son of the late James D. Hughes Sr. and Winnie Purcell Hughes and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Julia H. Wright and Doris H. Tinnell.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Jean H. Troxler of Greensboro, N.C.; two nieces; six nephews, one special nephew, T.M. "Butch" Tinnell Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Forest.

James was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran having served in European Theater; retired from C & P Telephone Company after 31 years of service; worked part time at Diuguid Funeral Home and then at Heritage Funeral Service.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, former Deacon; Marshall Lodge #39; American Legion Post 16; Brookville Ruritan Club where he was Past President and former Zone Governor; Telephone Pioneers and Woodmen of the World for 50 years..

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, in Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Louis Beckwith.

The family will receive friends today, Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, from to 7 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service, 427 Graves Mill Road.
