Justin Morcom Obituary
Justin Shaner Morcom, 27, of Lynchburg, earned his captain's wings on Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, as he flew into the arms of his heavenly father.
Born May 13, 1983, in Lynchburg, he was a graduate of Averett University, with a bachelor's degree in Aerospace Management, a pilot for Compass Airlines, and a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. He loved baseball and flying.
Justin had a lifelong dream of becoming an airline pilot. He achieved his dream by earning his pilot's license in 2001, becoming a private instructor and, most recently, working for Compass Airlines as First Officer.
In his 27 years, Justin touched many lives with his strength, courage and fighting spirit. His family and friends remember him most for his witty sense of humor and love of life. He was a special friend to many and will be deeply missed by all.
He leaves to cherish his memory his father, George D. Morcom and wife, Diana Pace-Morcom, of Monroe; his mother, Victoria Shaner Reese and husband, Glenn F. Reese, of Glen Allen; his fianc‚, Kara J. Snell and her father, Randle Snell, of Trenton, Mich.; his grandparents, Dorothy Wharff Shaner and the late Thornhill Shaner of Madison Heights, Rev. Wayne and Charmaine Reese, of Goode, Jim and Pat Morcom, of Monroe, and Ronnie and Betty Morcom, of Madison Heights; two step-brothers, Ryan J. Reese and wife, Kristin, and their son, Kage Reese, of Alexandria, and Matthew K. Webb, of Monroe; two stepsisters, Melissa D. McDarris, of Lynchburg ,and Meagan E. Pace, of Monroe; and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends and relatives from
7 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 17, 2010, at Heritage Funeral Service, 427 Graves Mill Road, and at other times at the residence of his father at 238 Hinton Hills Lane, in Monroe.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, in Pate Chapel at Thomas Road Baptist Church, by Pastor Jonathan Falwell, with burial to follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Justin to the American Cancer Society, 2316 Atherholt Rd., Ste. 108, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

I was in Justin's class at ExpressJet. He was the kind of person that will put you in a good mood just by him walking in the room. I am glad I got the chance to meet him and spend time with him. He will truely be missed.

To Justin's family, he was a truly outstanding person. I was a flight attendant at Compass with him and enjoyed flying with him very much. He was always quick with a laugh and truly loved what he did. He was a wonderful man and I am glad that I had the pleasure to work with him. God Bless all of you in your time of sorrow.
