Lennie Mickles Payne

On Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, Lennie Mickles Payne, 76, of Altavista, departed this life at Lynchburg General Hospital following a brief illness. She was born Dec. 11, 1933, to the late George D. and Willie Mary Mickles.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wilma, and a son, Stephen.

Lennie is survived by her husband of 43 years, Lylburn C. Payne; her son, George Mickles (Muriel), of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Bethanie, Anna and Evan; two sisters-in-law, Clara Payne, of Rustburg, and Bertha Payne, of Bellevelle, Mich.; a brother-in-law, William Jackson, of Washington, D.C.; and a host of loving nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to offer sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of the Medical Intensive Care Unit of Lynchburg General Hospital.

The funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Carlton Jackson Jr. officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Community Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
