Linwood Terry Obituary

Linwood Thomas Terry

God saw you getting weaker, and He whispered "Come and rest." His garden must be beautiful, for He only picks the best. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

Linwood Thomas Terry was called home at 12:30 a.m. on the 22nd day of September, 2010, at Lynchburg General Hospital. Mr. Terry was born on the 13th day of September 1928, in Lynchburg. He was a graduate of Campbell County Training School in Rustburg. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox in 1990 as a technician at LRC and NNFD. He was a faithful member of Flat Creek Baptist Church, where he expressed his love for music by singing on the choir and served on the Trustee Board.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Scott; his brother, Henry E. Scott; granddaughter, Lisa Jefferson; and grandson, Marcus Penn.

Linwood is survived by his loving wife, Juanita S. Terry; daughters, Linda Terry-Donahoo (Todd), of Dallas, Texas, Wanda Terry-Penn, of Lynchburg, Cassandra Terrell (Reginald), of Lynchburg, and Barbara Fore, of Greensboro, N.C.; a son, Vincent Fore, of Roanoke; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; seven sisters, Helen Faison, of Chevy Chase, Md., Virginia "Becky" Scott, of Los Angeles, Calif., Henrietta Miller, of Rochester, N.Y., Gloria Thurman, of Waynesboro, Permelia "Daisy" Alexander (Carnell), Sarah Franklin (Roger) and Teresa Scott, all of Lynchburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Chapel Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Braxton officiating and the Rev. Dr. Edward Austin as eulogist. Interment will be in the church cemetery. His remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family is receiving friends, and the cortege will assemble at the residence.

Juanita, please know that members of the IAAP Lynchburg Chapter are thinking of you during this difficult time. Diana Pace-Morcom sent out an e-mail (I have been on vacation) and informed about "Pie". The few times I was privileged to be in his company was very enjoyable. Our prayers are with you and your entire family.

Juanita -- I was so sorry to learn that "Smiley" had said goodbye to his earthly home. BUT, I know he'll be in God's home and that one day we'll see him again. I remember our PSI (later renamed Int'l Associaion ... of something -- was that IAPP?) days and our trips to other Chapters and lot's of times, there would be Smiling Linwood. Sincere sympathy, Jean Billingslea (Lynchburg, VA).
