Raymond Wright Obituary

Raymond "Red" Wright

Raymond Austin Wright, affectionately known to many of his friends as "Red Wright," died peacefully at the Baptist Hospital Hospice Center on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010. He was born in Madison Heights to the late Maude Simpson Wright and James Monroe Wright Jr. He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Wright, and his wife of 47 years, Helen Singleton Wright. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and had a career of over 40 years with Norfolk-Southern Railroad. He was a member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, the American Legion and the Bent Rail Club.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Phyllis Honeycutt Wright; his daughter, Ginger Paris, and husband, Ed, of Lynchburg, and their children, Cameron Paris and fianc‚, Daniel Salisbury, and Colin Paris; son, Dennis Wright, of Houston, Texas; son, Tracy Wright, and wife, Laura, of Umatilla, Fla., and their daughter, Karlee Wright; stepdaughter, Cindy Hughes, and husband, Kip, of Madison Heights, and their children, Adam and Callie Hughes; stepdaughter, Denise Lies, and husband, Jeff, of Goldsboro, N.C., and their children, Justin and Jeremy Lies; stepdaughter, Tina Oliver, and husband, Paul, of Hermitage, Mo., and their children, Kelly and Angie Oliver; a devoted niece, Kim Harrell; and his sister, Joyce Johnson, and her husband, Marshall, of Madison Heights.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Lynchburg City School Strings in care of Bedford Hills Elementary School 4330 Morningside Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24503, or the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra, 621 Court St., Lynchburg, VA 24504.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Odd Fellows Home, where Raymond resided for the past four years, Lynchburg General Hospital Pre-surgery floor nurses and doctors as well as the Baptist Hospice Center Staff.

The family will receive friends 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
