Richard Holmes

Richard Holmes, 55, of Amherst, departed this life on Friday, May 27, 2011, at his residence. Born in Charlottesville, Dec. 27, 1955, he was a son of Fannie Holmes and the late Robert Banks. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons, he had been actively employed for 21 years at the University of Virginia Medical Center until his illness.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 17 years, Denise Toliver Holmes; daughter, Kyona Toliver; step-daughter, Tiffany Abrams (Jamel); brothers, Harrie (Shirolyn) Holmes, John Brock, Chauncey Banks, Robert Banks; sisters, Janet Holmes (Robert), Sandy Brock, Karen Banks, Pam Collins (Horace); a step grand-

daughter, Serena; a devoted friend, John Rose; 2 special friends, James Whitlock and Gene Allen; 5 nieces; 5 nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Holmes.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Walker, Officiating and the Rev. Annette Diggs, Eulogist. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service during which time, the family will receive friends. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Condolences to the Holmes family. Richard(stink)Holmes was a cousin. We grew up together in Stanardsville,Va. He served us well back in the day, as the neighborhood barber. We shared many memorable and lasting moments. RIP Cousin! God Bless.
